SERGEANT GEORGE SAVAGE, 1ST BENGAL EUROPEAN FUSILIERS (THE POST 1880 1ST BATTALION ROYAL MUNSTER FUSILIERS). India General Service Medal 1849-1895, 1 clasp, Pegu, an officially renamed replacement medal (engraved in running script, in an identical style to that seen on Indian Mutiny Medals named to regiments of the East India Company (see British Battles 2006 edition, page 2009): Serjt. Geo Savage Pt. Eupn. Bengal Fusrs.). Scattered minor edge bruises, rim nicks, surface contact marks, and couple of contact marks to clasp, otherwise attractively toned, Good Very Fine, and with the recipient’s silver plated top suspender pin-backed ribbon buckle, for wearing.

Given that this is an officially renamed replacement medal issued after the Indian Mutiny, it is probably a replacement for Savage’s original medal, lost at some stage prior to or during the Indian Mutiny. The 1st Bengal European Fusiliers also saw service during the Indian Mutiny (awarded medal with Delhi clasp). Savage thus perhaps worth of research to confirm whether he also saw service during the Indian Mutiny,
