PRIVATE F.J. GREEN, 5TH ROYAL IRISH LANCERS. Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, type 3, 4 clasps, Natal, Belmont, Modder River, Orange Free State (officially named, impressed in plain block capitals: 5971 Pte. F.J. GREEN. 5th LANCERS.). Attractively toned, Extremely Fine, and with a length of original ribbon, a rare combination of clasps to the 5th Lancers.

Unusual combination of clasps to the 5th Lancers, more usually seen on medals to the 9th Lancers, many officers and men from that regiment being awarded this four clasp combination Natal, Belmont, Modder River and Orange Free State.

Green not found on 5th Lancers Boer War medal roll, so he presumably saw service in South Africa attached to the 9th Lancers.
