PRIVATE A.E. TRAYNOR, 2ND AND 14TH (YOUNG CITIZENS) BATTALIONS ROYAL IRISH RIFLES, AND ROYAL ULSTER RIFLES. General Service Medal 1918-62, 1 clasp, Iraq (officially impressed: 5440 PTE. A.E. TRAYNOR. R. IR. RIF.). Small contact mark to rim at 6 o’clock, partially obscuring first initial, “A”, in name, otherwise Very Fine to Good Very Fine.

Medal accompanied by copied extracts from 1901 and 1911 Irish census returns, copied Medal Index Cards (2), and extract from WW1 campaign medal roll.

Albert E. Traynor is recorded in the 1901 census as the new-born son of Frederick and Elizabeth Traynor, living with his parents and two sisters at 8 Tivoli Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin (Tivoli mis-spelt “Tivoly” in copy census return). In the 1911 census he is recorded as a 10 year old “visitor” at 9 Tivoli Avenue, Rathmines, the home of John Henry Samuels. Traynor saw service during WW1 with the 14th (Young Citizens) Battalion Royal Irish Rifles (also entitled British War and Victory Medals), and in Iraq 1919-20 with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. Medal Index card confirms subsequent service as 7006135 Private with the Royal Ulster Rifles and gives home address as Tivoli Cottage, Tivoli Avenue, Harolds Cross Road, Dublin.
