Medal accompanied by copy medal roll extract, confirming medal and clasp, 4 pages of copied service papers and extract from 1891 census.

William Hallows was born in Warrington, Lancashire. He enlisted into the 3rd Foot at Warrington on 18/12/1867. At the time of enlistment he was 19 years of age and gave his trade as that of labourer. Hallows transferred to the 1st Battalion 33rd Foot (West Riding Regiment) on 1/10/1878 with the rank of Private. He was promoted Lance-Sergeant, 1/8/1879, and transferred to the 3rd Battalion West Riding Regiment with the rank of Sergeant on 1/10/1882. He was discharged on 18/12/1888. In addition to service at home and in Perak, Hallows also saw service in India. He is recorded in the 1891 census as a 41 year old warehouse man living in Warrington. The India General Service Medal with Perak clasp was Hallows’s sole campaign medal entitlement, but he was also awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
