Medal accompanied by copied Medal Index card and WW1 medal roll. Medal roll confirms service initially with the 20th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers from 9/1/1916 to 2/2/1918 and subsequently with the 24th Battalion Royal Fusiliers from 3/2/1918 to 30/8/1918.
Mark Noble’s period of service with the 20th Northumberland Fusiliers indicate that he was serving with that battalion on 1st July 1916, and was thus a survivor of the First Day, Battle of the Somme. The 20th Northumberland Fusiliers casualty rate on 1/7/1916 was among the highest suffered by any battalion on that day, the battalion being almost completely wiped out within minutes of going over the top.
Recipient also entitled to Victory Medal, but not either of the Stars.
