PRIVATE J. SIMS, 5th BATTALION ROYAL INNISKILLING FUSILIERS. British War Medal (officially impressed: 30067 PTE. J. SIMS. R. INNIS. FUS.). Scattered minor contact marks to rim, otherwise Good Very Fine to Almost Extremely Fine.

Joseph Sims enlisted on 3/7/1916. He saw service exclusively with the 5th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during WW1 and was discharged on 15/2/1919 as a result of wounds (recipient also entitled Victory Medal and Silver Wound Badge).

The 5th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was originally raised at Omagh in August 1914. Prior to Sims enlisting, the 5th Inniskillings had seen service in Gallipoli, but by the time he enlisted it was serving in Salonika. The battalion subsequently saw service in Egypt, from September 1917, and France, from June 1918 to the end of the war.
