When Morris enlisted the Light Infantry Regiment comprised three battalions, all three of which saw service in Northern Ireland during the early years of the Troubles, the 1st Battalion first seeing service in Belfast (Ballykinler) from 26/2/1968 to 24/4/1970, the 2nd in Belfast from 13/9/1969 to 17/1/1970 and 3rd Battalion in Belfast from 15/8/1969 to 15/11/1968. All three battalions subsequently took part in further tours of duty in Northern Ireland. The 4th Battalion of the Light Infantry was disbanded in 1969, prior to Morris enlisting.
