William Ambrose White, born Andover, 1875, enlisted into the Royal Marines at Chatham on 5/07/1892, aged 17 years and 11 months (serving under age for 31 days to 4/8/1892). Service papers give his father’s Christian name as William and home address at time of enlistment as 55 Odo Road, Tower Hamlets, Dover. White is recorded in the 1901 census aboard HMS Monarch at Simons Bay, South Africa. He was discharged on 30/9/1904, time expired, his character at the time of discharge being described as “very good”.
