Medal accompanied by extract 1851 British Army Worldwide Index and published medal roll extracts (2) on one of which surname is spelt Solomon and on the other Soloman, both rolls confirming medal and clasp.

Charles Soloman (surname spelt Solomon) is recorded in the 1851 Worldwide Index as 2279 Private serving with the 29th Foot at Meerut, India.

Although Soloman was still serving with the 29th Foot in 1851, he is apparently not recorded in the original roll for the Punjab Medal of 1848-49, presumably because he was unfit for duty during that campaign.

The 29th Foot saw extensive service during the First Sikh War. At the battle of Ferozeshuhur on 22/12/1845 the regiment lost 195 officers and men wounded and 55 killed and at Sobroan, 10/2/1846 the regiment lost a further 32 men killed and 141 officers and men wounded.
