THE SCINDE MEDAL WITH MEEANEE-HYDERABAD REVERSE TO CAPTAIN SAMUEL SMITH, 9TH BENGAL LIGHT (LATER INVALID ESTABLISHMENT). Scinde Medal 1843, Meeanee-Hyderabad 1843 reverse, replacement silver clip and silver straight bar suspender (officially named, engraved in running script: Captn S. Smith 9th Regt. Bengal Cavalry).
Scattered minor rim nicks, otherwise attractively toned, Good Very Fine and with its original silver ribbon buckle.
Medal accompanied by extract from Hodson’s List of the Officers of the Bengal army 1758-1834.
Samuel Smith (1805-1858) was appointed Cadet, Bengal Presidency, 1827 and arrived in India 8/4/1828 having been appointed Cornet, 13/10/1827. Smith was promoted Lieutenant, 28/4/1832, Captain, 24/3/1843, and invalided 16/10/1846, subsequently seeing service with the invalid establishment. Captain Smith died at Mussorie, 29/11/1858.
