Felix Bennett Perkin’s rank is recorded as Corporal on the medal roll but by the time of the British Army Worldwide Index for 1861 he is recorded as serving as 3313 Private Felix Bennet Perkin with the 102nd Foot (Royal Madras Fusiliers) in Bangalore, India, having been demoted after the conclusion of the Indian Mutiny campaign.
The fact that Perkin was serving with the 102nd Foot in 1862 indicates that he was one of the men who volunteered to transfer from the 1st Madras European Fusiliers to the British Army in 1859.
There is a Felix Bennett Perkins with a home address of Doncaster recorded in the Register of Peddlers for Exeter, with a permit dated 10/03/1871 (expired 09/03/1872) housed in the archives of Devon Heritage Centre, probably the same man (note different spelling of surname to medal and service records.
