John Grainger Young was born in Govan, Glasgow, in 1891. He enlisted into the Army Service Corps at Glasgow on 2/3/1916. At the time of enlistment Young stated that he was 25 years old and gave his trade as Warehouseman. Young was discharged on 8/3/1919 as a result of sickness. At the time of discharge Young gave his intended place of residence as Crosshill, Glasgow.
