Service number indicates that Lowery enlisted in 1964.
Both the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Grenadier Guards were deployed in Northern Ireland during the early stages of the Troubles, the 1st Battalion first seeing service in Londonderry, 29/12/1969 to 20/4/1970, and the 2nd Battalion first seeing service in Londonderry, 23/8/1969 to 23/1/1970. Both battalions went on to take part in regular tours of duty in Northern Ireland during the 1970s and 1980s.
