Brooch marks professionally removed from reverse (only minor traces of damage), replacement silver jump ring and ring suspender, couple of minor edge nicks, otherwise Good Very Fine or perhaps a little better.

Medal accompanied by 4 pages copied discharge papers, copied Crimea Medal rolls which confirm that McClelland was also entitled to the Crimea Medal with clasps Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol and saw service in the Crimea with “B” Battery, 8th Company, 3rd Battalion Royal Artillery.

Hugh McClelland was born in Portglenone, County Antrim, circa 1828 and enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Ballymena on 29/12/1846. At the time of enlistment McClelland was 18 years and 6 months old and gave his trade as weaver. He was discharged at Dublin on 16/3/1870 after 23 years and 104 days service with the colours. Discharge papers confirm McClelland’s conduct as having been “very good”, that at the time of discharge he was in possession of 5 Good Conduct badges and confirms entitlement to the Crimea Medal with Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol clasps, the Turkish Crimea Medal and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, the latter medal being awarded with a gratuity of £5. Discharge papers also confirm that, in addition to service at home, McClelland also saw service in Malta for 3 years and 9 months and the Crimea for 1 year and 9 months.
