Medal accompanied by biographical details, 6 pages copied service papers, extract 1901 census and copied medal roll extract, confirming medal and clasp and additionally noting Bennett as transferring “to 77 Regiment” subsequent to the South Africa campaign of 1877-79.
Job Bennett was born in West Camel, Yeovil, Somerset in 1860, the son of George and Eliza Bennett. He enlisted into the 57th Foot at Swindon on 27/3/1876. At the time of enlistment Bennett was 18 years and 10 months old and gave his trade as labourer. Bennett transferred to the Army Reserve on 2/8/1882, and was finally discharged on 15/3/1888 after having seen 6 years 332 days service with the colours. In addition to service at home, Bennett also saw service in the East Indies for 4 years and 132 days.
Job Bennett is recorded in the 1901 census as a 42 year old coal labourer resident in Yeovilton, Somerset, with his 44 year old brother in law Charles Jeans and his 44 year old wife Ann.
