Service number indicates enlistment circa February 1968.
Two battalions of the King’s Regiment saw service in Northern Ireland, the 1st Battalion, whose first tour of duty was in Belfast from 1/9/1970 to 5/1/1970, and the 2nd Battalion, whose first tour of duty was in Belfast from 15/6/1984 to 4/10/1984. Both battalions subsequently saw a number of other deployments in Northern Ireland. Medal accompanied by copied extract from Colonel Michael Dewar’s “The British Army in Northern Ireland”, giving details of the various tours of duty carried out by both battalions.
The two battalions of the King’s Regiment sustained a large number of casualties during their tours of duty in Northern Ireland, with 15 men from the regiment being killed in action, with the 1st Battalion losing seven men being killed, along with 42 others wounded, during a tour of duty in 1972 in Belfast.
The King’s Regiment was formed on 1/9/1958 by the amalgamation of the King’s Regiment (Liverpool) with the Manchester Regiment.
