The Noble 24th records George R. Rushworth as having seen service with “F’ Company, 2nd Battalion 24th Foot in South Africa, where he was promoted Lance Corporal on 23/1/1879. Rushworth was discharged, by purchase, on 10/9/1880, his decision to purchase his discharge perhaps influenced by the heavy casualties sustained by both battalions of his regiment during the campaign in South Africa.
