Medal Index confirms that 8650 Private Ralph Hopkinson first saw active service in the Balkans, entering that theater of operations on 22/7/1915 (the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment arrived at Mudros as a unit on 22/7/1915 and subsequently landed at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, on 7/8/1915). Medal Index Card confirms Hopkinson as subsequently seeing service as 2810 Private, Royal Irish Regiment, 354309 Private, Royal Engineers, and 8650 Private, Lancashire Fusiliers. Private Hopkinson was discharged to the Class Z Army Reserve on 28/4/1919.
