Samuel Teeney was born in Shankill, Belfast, and enlisted at Belfast. He first saw active service in France and Flanders, entering that theatre of operations on 14/4/1915. The Regimental Journal, “The Sprig”, for August 1916, records Teeney as having been wounded in action during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. He was killed in action on 1/4/1917 during the attack on Savy Wood. During that operation, the 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers lot one officer killed in action and 10 wounded, and 31 other ranks killed, 107 wounded and 3 missing. Samuel Teeney has no known grave and is commemorated at Savy British Cemetery.

Private Teeney was also entitled to the 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal.

The 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers took part in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
