PRIVATE T. MULCAHEY, 2ND BATTALION ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT. India General Service Medal 1854, 1 clasp, Hazara 1888 (officially engraved in running scrips: 2032 Pte. T. MULCAHEY 2d. Bn. R. Ir. R.). Attractively toned, Almost Extremely Fine.

Medal accompanied by copied extract medal roll confirming medal and clasp and Embarkation Record details.

Embarkation Record confirms Mulcahey was born in 1886, enlisted into the Royal Irish Regiment on 29/7/1885 and embarked for India on 9/9/1886 aboard the “Euphrates”.

There are two clerical errors in Mulcahey’s Embarkation Record. Embarkation Record gives initial incorrectly as “J”, but gives correct regimental number “2032” and also gives battalion incorrectly as 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, clearly a clerical error, and should read 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, since the 1st Royal Irish were stationed in England in 1886 and did not see service overseas until 2/5/1896, when a contingent of 30 men from the battalion commanded by Lieutenant S.G. French embarked for overseas service in Rhodesia, and the battalion not seeing service overseas as a unit until it sailed from England for South Africa on 16/12/1899 to take part in the Boer War.
