Medal accompanied by 3 pages of copied Militia attestation papers, medal roll extracts (confirming recipient entitled medal and clasps and that he saw service during the Boer War with the 4th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment) and copied extract from “The Constitutional Force”, giving details of the services of the 4th West Yorkshires during the Boer War.

William Young was born in Leeds. He enlisted into the 4th West Yorkshires on 31/5/1899. At the time of enlistment he was 19 years of age, resident at 83 New Camp Road, Leeds, and gave his trade as that of “gilder”.
