Two: India General Service Medal 1849-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (officially named, impressed in serifed capital letters: 2726 JOHN BEVERIDGE 1ST. MADRAS FUSILIERS); Indian Mutiny Medal, 1 clasp, Lucknow (officially named, impressed in serifed capital letters: J. BEVERIDGE. 1ST. MADRAS FUSRS). Small neatly plugged hole in rim of Indian Mutiny Medal at 6 o’clock (perhaps indicating that the medal was at one time in a swiveling mount or menu holder) and light surface scratches in obverse field in front of Queen Victoria’s face, otherwise medals generally Good Very Fine or perhaps a little better.
Medal accompanied by copied extract Lord Clive Military Fund pension record and extract original India Mutiny Medal roll, confirming medal and clasp.
John Beveridge is recorded in his Lord Clive pension record as having been born in Glasgow circa 1823, a finisher by trade, and as having been discharged in 1859 as a result of having been wounded in the right leg during the Indian Mutiny and invalided aboard the “Barham” on 27/6/1860. Beveridge was admitted to a pension on 2/7/1860, his initial pension payment of 9 pence per day being backdated to 28/6/1859 and subsequently increased to 1 shilling and 3 pence from 16/3/1893. Pension record gives his place of residence as Glasgow.
Pension records additionally note that Beveridges conduct whilst serving had been “good”.
The Indian Mutiny Medal roll has a manuscript note against Beveridge’s name to the effect that the “S.O.P. informed medal sent to Madras” (Supervisor of Pensions informed medal sent to Madras)
