Punjab Medal 1848-49, 2 clasps, Goojerat, Chilianwala (officially named, impressed in serifed capital letters: JOHN NESBITT, 29TH. FOOT.). Medal rim holed and neatly plugged at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock (probably removed from a menu holder or similar), otherwise Good Very Fine.

Medal accompanied by extracts British Army Worldwide Index for 1841 and 1851 and extract Punjab Casualty Roll, confirming medal and clasps and that Private Nesbitt was wounded in action at Chillianwala, 13/1/1849.

The 29th Foot lost 34 men killed and 207 officers and men wounded at Chilianwala.

The following biographical details for Nesbitt were obtained from the Worcestershire Regiment Museum: Born 1815, Nesbitt enlisted 20/9/1839, age 24, joining the 29th Foot on 8/10/1839. He died on 1/8/1860.

The 1841 British Army Worldwide Index records Nesbitt as a Private serving with the 29th Foot at Edinburgh and Glasgow and the 1851 Worldwide Index records him as a Private serving with the 29th Foot at Meerut, India.
